Description
This hose is manufactured using two types of raw materials: EPDM (high-quality) and SBR (standard). The reinforcing yarn inside the hose is made of polyester.
The primary function of this polyester yarn is to prevent water leakage, reduce coolant loss, and enhance antifreeze properties of the hose.
Service Life of the Short Inlet Heater Hose for Peugeot 405 with TU5 Engine
The lifespan of the hose varies depending on the material used:
-
If the hose is made from EPDM, its average lifespan is approximately 4 years.
-
If the hose is made from SBR, its lifespan is significantly shorter—around 6 months to 1 year.
Signs of Damage in the Short Inlet Heater Hose for Peugeot 405 with TU5 Engine
-
Cracks: Visible cracking on the outer surface of the hose is a clear indication of wear. The deeper and more widespread the cracks, the more brittle and deteriorated the hose is, and it should be replaced as soon as possible.
-
Bulging: Uneven swelling or bulging on the hose surface is another sign of internal failure.
-
Peeling or Delamination: The hose may appear to be “two-layered” or start to flake—an indication of low quality and imminent failure.
Consequences of a Faulty Short Inlet Heater Hose for Peugeot 405 with TU5 Engine
-
Coolant Leakage Inside the Cabin: One of the most noticeable effects of a faulty hose is water leaking into the car’s interior, especially under the driver’s feet.
-
Coolant Loss: A damaged hose can lead to a drop in the radiator’s coolant level, putting the engine at serious risk.
-
In milder cases, this results in engine overheating, or what’s commonly referred to as the engine “boiling over.”
How to Tell a Good Hose from a Bad One (Peugeot 405 Short Inlet Heater Hose)
-
Surface Appearance: Hoses made with EPDM typically have a shiny and smooth surface, while those made with SBR are dull and lack shine.
-
Surface Condition: High-quality EPDM hoses will not have surface pitting or layering (also called “two-skin”).
-
Smell Test: If you’re unable to inspect the hose closely, smell it—a quality EPDM hose has a sweet scent, whereas a lower-quality SBR hose does not.
